Begun as a pilot project in January, 1998, Centre 7 (named for its 7 Galt St. address), will begin its 14th season on November 5, 2011. Modelled on programs in Toronto and elsewhere, Center 7’s aim is to serve those whose low incomes discourage an active social life but whose need for a meeting place with friends and a good hot meal is the same as others'. Through Out-of-the-Cold Saturday Suppers, Southminster United Church provides local outreach while living part of its mission to serve others and to stand with those who live on the margins of society.

Centre 7 is an ecumenical community outreach project jointly supported by Trinity Anglican, St. Matthew's Anglican and Southminster United churches. Each church contributes financial support and volunteers to run the program. Other churches in the area have also made both financial and volunteer contributions at various times.

A vegetarian option is provided each week. We are wheelchair accessible. Children are welcome.

Volunteering

The project would not succeed without its volunteers, who are members of neighborhood churches (including Southminster), neighbourhood families, university students and other enthusiastic workers. Volunteers are used in all the following areas.

  • Set up and take down
  • Cooking
  • Greeting/Registration
  • Kitchen clean up
  • Delivering food to tables and socializing with guests
  • Preparing muffins, vegetarian dishes and or desserts as needed.

If you would like to volunteer, please contact Martha in the church office - 613-730-6874.

Support

Centre 7 is supported by the donations of local churches, businesses and individuals. All monetary donations are tax deductible. If you would like to make a donation to Centre 7, please make any cheques payable to Southminster United Church, with "Centre 7" noted in the memo line.
